Domestic Air Source Heat Pump, Solar PV & Tesla Powerwall Installation, Boston, Lincolnshire

A Complete Integrated Renewable Energy System DCR was appointed to design and install a fully integrated domestic renewable energy system, combining an air source heat pump (ASHP), solar PV and Tesla Powerwall battery storage.
The client wanted multiple technologies to work seamlessly together, maximising energy efficiency, reducing reliance on the grid and creating a future-ready heating and energy solution for their home.
The Client Challenge
The key challenge was integrating several technologies into one reliable and efficient system. The client wanted their air source heat pump, solar PV and battery storage to complement one another rather than operate as separate systems.
Particular consideration was required around the electrical controls, heating system design and the use of surplus solar generation to support the home's heating and hot water requirements.

Our Solution
Drawing on DCR's in-house expertise across heating, electrical and renewable energy systems, we designed a bespoke solution around the property's requirements.
The system incorporated an inverter-driven R290 air source heat pump, upgraded heat emitters and intelligent controls, alongside a solar PV system and Tesla Powerwall battery.
The integrated controls allow surplus electricity generated by the PV system to be utilised for hot water pre-heating, helping the client make greater use of their own renewable energy generation.

Scope of Works
Design and installation of a domestic air source heat pump system
Installation of a larger AS03 inverter-driven R290 heat pump
New heat pump-compatible radiators throughout the property
Heating system upgrades, including new pipework, buffer and controls
Installation of a high-efficiency 240-litre heat pump-compatible hot water cylinder
Solar PV system installation
Tesla Powerwall battery storage
New electrical controls and system wiring
Removal and safe disposal of the existing oil boiler and oil tank
System flushing, treatment and commissioning
MCS and NICEIC certification

Technical Details
The AS03 heat pump uses inverter-driven technology, allowing its output to adjust according to the property's heating demand. New double-panel, double-convector radiators were specified to operate effectively alongside the lower flow temperatures associated with heat pump heating.

The Result
The completed installation brings heating, hot water, solar generation and battery storage together as one integrated energy solution.
By combining renewable electricity generation with efficient heat pump technology and battery storage, the system is designed to maximise the use of energy generated on-site while providing the client with greater control over their home's energy consumption.
