National Railway Workshop re-routing of an Existing Commercial Gas supply to an Existing AHU

A recent project at a rail maintenance workshop exemplifies our ability to deliver complex gas rerouting solutions with precision and compliance.

The Client Request

The client approached DCR with a specific requirement: to assist in re-routing an existing commercial gas supply to an operational air handling unit (AHU) within a busy rail maintenance facility. The challenge was to complete the works without disrupting ongoing operations or compromising access to other critical equipment.

Our Solution

DCR’s experienced gas engineering team provided a complete support package, beginning with remote design consultation to plan the safest and most efficient route for the new gas line. Key elements of the works included:

Decommissioning & Purge – We safely purged the existing gas volume using an air-to-gas purge process to allow for decommissioning in line with safety standards.

New Gas Line Installation – Installed a new 4” commercial gas supply, carefully routed to ensure safe access and maintenance clearance for surrounding equipment.

Commissioning & Testing – Strength testing and gas-to-air purge procedures were carried out to confirm system integrity.

AHU Inspection – Our in-house Gas Safe registered commercial engineers conducted a full gas safety inspection and functional testing on the existing AHU to confirm compliance and readiness.

For this project, DCR specified Geberit as the pipeline manufacturer of choice. Known for their durability and reliability, Geberit systems ensured a robust and long-lasting installation fit for a demanding industrial environment.
